High Security Registration Plates (HSRPs) are now mandatory for all vehicles in India as per the directives of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. Introduced to enhance road safety and curb the rising instances of vehicle theft, HSRPs are equipped with advanced security features like a chromium-based hologram, laser-etched permanent identification numbers, and non-removable snap-on locks. These features make the plates tamper-proof and significantly reduce the possibility of forging or tampering with vehicle number plates.
HSRPs also include color-coded stickers that indicate the vehicle’s fuel type, aiding in quick identification and compliance with environmental standards. For vehicles registered before April 2019, owners must upgrade to HSRPs, while those purchased after this date are already equipped with them. The implementation of HSRPs is a crucial step toward standardizing vehicle registration across the country and enhancing the overall security of the transportation system, benefiting law enforcement and vehicle owners alike.
